Influenza continues to circulate at high levels in Arizona, with more than half of reported influenza cases being type B in the last two months. 77% of the subtyped influenza B viruses in Arizona are B/Yamagata (a component of the quadrivalent vaccine only).

  • Providers should continue to administer influenza vaccine, and consider quadrivalent vaccine, to patients that have not been vaccinated and to children that require a second dose.  This season’s influenza vaccine expires on June 30th, 2017.
  • Healthcare facilities should continue to follow their protocols and procedures for flu season.
  • Please refer patients to the following website to find a site offering flu shots near them:

ADHS will announce the end of the flu season when there are no new confirmed influenza cases for two consecutive weeks at the Arizona State Public Health Laboratory.  Weekly flu surveillance reports in Arizona can be subscribed to here.

For questions regarding the 2016-2017 flu vaccine, call the local health agency or the Arizona Immunization Program Office at (602) 364-3630. Influenza vaccine recommendations are available at the CDC website.
