In Memoriam - Genie Eide

Imogene (Genie) Eide, 94, passed away on May 24, 2017. She was born in Missoula, Montana on December 19, 1922 to Lewis M. and Alice (Garnett) Felton. Genie graduated from the Missoula St. Patrick's Hospital Nursing Program in 1943. She started her nursing career and continued her studies in nursing, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University in 1967. During her nursing career, Genie held leadership positions at Southside District Hospital, the Maricopa County Health Department and Cigna Health Care. She went on to form her own company and was nurse administrator and president of Home Care/Hospice Consulting Service, Inc. until her retirement in 1997. Genie also served as a consultant for the World Health Organization and was stationed in India during the late 1960s. She was an early adopter of the concept of hospice in the United States and helped draft the initial regulations for hospice services now licensed in AZ. Working with five others she helped define the services received today from the Hospice of the Valley . She was a founding member of Arizona Nurses Association, and the Arizona Association of Home Care in 1974. She received recognition from national, state and local nursing and healthcare related organizations serving on the board of directors of the National Association of Home Care, president of the Arizona Association for Home Care and the Arizona State University, and received the Outstanding Alumnus Award for the College of Nursing. Genie was inducted as a Fellow in Home Care and Hospice from the Home Care University, Washington DC in 1998. She was an avid golfer, cook and loved talking to all people. Genie is survived by her daughter Pollie Carter, grandchildren Heather Pagdilao, Jason Coons and Tabitha Coons and great grandchildren Christian, Gia and Logan. Other surviving family members include Joyce Felton, Diana Foster, Ron Felton, Don Felton, Lew Felton, Linda Woolfolk, Sandy Rice, Becki Hickman, Luann Williams, Bradley Felton and Lod Bass. Memorial services and reception will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 2310 N. 56th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008, June 24, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley ,1510 E Flower St Phoenix, AZ 85014.
